I sold my oldskool '72 Triumph chopper yesterday with some mixed feelings.

Once you decide to sell, it's always nice to finally get the right buyer and the money you were asking. But, it's always also sad to see something you built and enjoyed for 30+ years. I originally built the bike way back in 1974 from nothing but a frame and basket-case engine.

Having a son that's a perpetual college student and a daughter in Vet School, the cash will come in very handy though.

It actually happened so fast that I didn't have much time to think.....

The guy calls me Monday night after dinner and says he's coming Tuesday with a truck and cash. Being winter around here, the bike was in storage and there was still a good bit of snow to move in order to get it out. Then I had to clean off the dust and stuff that I'd normally wait until spring to do. Luckily, it was a nice warm day.

The Dude certainly was a work of art too! He drove over from Columbus, Ohio (about 4 hours) drinking beer the entire way! He was pretty shitfaced when he arrived, took one look at the bike, and handed me nice crisp cash. He wasn't even interested in me showing him around the bike at all....like where the ignition was located and how to turn on the headlight. It's pretty flat around central Ohio so I was surprised that the guy sounded like a backwoods hillbilly.

My heart sank a little bit when he began saying he would lose the rear fender that I so painstakingly fabricated, put a sissy bar on it, and replace the 1960's springer front forks.

Oh well....all things must pass eventually.

Triumph is a damn good bike too. Do they still make them? I haven't seen one in a loooong time.

Yeah, it kind of hurts.

Triumph is the oldest motorcycle company in existence (about 6 years older than Harley-Davidson). They still build them: Triumph Motorcycles.

I still have a classic '69 Tiger 650 and also one of the new ones (Trophy 1200):

What are you planning to ride now cnoel08??

I've got a Ninja 750 ZX-R that I might let go. 1800 miles. I used to roadrace it at a nearby track. It's all set-up for racing with drilled drain plugs and water-wetter in the radiator.

Wow, beautiful bike. I would be sad to see that drive away also. But like you said, all things come and go, such is life...

I've got Farmers Insurance...they don't charge me any more for that bike than for my other ones.
